Am Anfang stand unsere Auseinandersetzung mit dem Phänomen Theresienstadt / Terezín, unter besonderem Augenmerk auf die Zeit des nationalsozialistischen KZ / Ghettos für Juden 1941-1945.

Dafür wurden von uns alle Haustüren dieser Stadt vollständig, archivarisch genau fotografiert, da es bisher ein solches Archiv nicht gab. Von draußen, ohne Menschen, ohne Autos, Tür in der Regel geschlossen.
Künstlerische Hypothese ist: der Abwesenheit eine Gestaltung zu geben.

Dieses fotografische Archivmaterial erscheint zweifach:

• erstens in der Zeit sich entfaltend – die bevorstehende Projektion;
• zweitens im Raum versammelt – als Postkarten-Installation in der Kleinen Festung Terezín (in Jahr 2026, genaueres dazu dann).

In beiden Fällen treten ohne Auswahl alle Türen in Erscheinung, dem hegelianischen Gedanken folgend: dass das Ganze das Wahre sei.

Wir fühlen uns, je mehr wir uns Terezín nähern, als Performative Bildende Künstler:innen besonders betroffen, besonders empört und besonders gefragt. Der Anwesenheit der Vergangenheit in unserer Gegenwart, sonst allzu gern verleugnet oder nicht wahrgenommen, wollen wir Ausdruck verleihen.

It all began with our dealing with (Auseinandersetzung mit) the phenomenon of Theresienstadt / Terezín, with a specific focus on the period of the Nazi concentration camp / ghetto for Jews from 1941 to 1945.

To this end, we photographed all the front doors of this city in their entirety, building a meticulous archive, as no such archive previously existed. From the outside, without people, without cars, doors usually closed. The artistic approach is to give form to absence – to speak the ‘unspeakable‘.

The resulting photographic archive material will be presented in two ways:

• firstly, unfolding over time – the upcoming projection;
• secondly, gathered in space – as a postcard installation in the Small Fortress Terezín (in 2026, more details to follow).

In both cases, all doors appear without selection, following the hegelian thought: that the whole is the truth.

The closer we get to Terezín, the more we feel, as performative visual artists, particularly affected, particularly outraged and particularly in demand. We want to give expression to the presence of the past in our present, which is otherwise all too often denied or ignored.
